Dentures

Dentures have long been one of the simplest and most sustainable options for replacing your missing tooth / teeth. They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. You may have heard of them referred to as ‘plates.’ They are basically strong plastic / metal designed to fit precisely in your mouth with realistic-looking teeth attached to them that replace the look and function of your missing teeth. They can also be easily removed for cleaning.

Broadly, there are three types of dentures.

The first type is called a “partial” denture. They’re called partial dentures because they replace a few missing teeth (not all of them). If you’re missing one or more teeth but have natural teeth remaining, partial dentures may be a good option for you.

The second type is called a “complete” denture. Complete dentures are what the name suggests—they are dentures that replace a complete set of teeth in either your upper jaw, lower jaw, or both. They take some getting used to, but they are designed to look natural and feel comfortable.

The third type is called an “implant-supported” denture. Your dentures can be designed to “clip” or “snap” onto your implants. This provides your dentures with a great deal of stability, and they will feel far mor secure in your mouth. They will give you far more confidence using your dentures while eating and speaking. Over time, your dentures may start to feel a bit loose or start to feel a bit uncomfortable as they get older. They may also break if accidentally dropped. Instead of having them remade, they may be able to be altered or repaired to look and function just like new

Dentures come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and designs. What they all have in common is that they need to be taken care of, just like natural teeth.

Our dentists will advise you on whether dentures are right for you, as well as how to take care of dentures you may already have.
